New Year's Day Row January 1
Winter news
Nereid News will go on a winter break at least until January. Happy
holidays everyone!!
==================
New Year's Day Row
With fair weather in the forecast for the near future, there's still
no need to remove Nereid's docks. Unless we have an unexpected
blizzard, rowing should be possible in January. Nereid's docks can
be removed with just a few days notice and we will keep a close weather
watch. Frank has started derigging the club boats that will be
repaired over the winter, so not all shells are available to row.
Taking advantage of the mild conditions, on January 1 Nereid will have its
first ever New Year's Day Row. Starting at about 11 AM, be there for
your chance to make Nereid history! Breakfast will be available
after the row.
When rowing in freezing weather, take care to stay warm. At all
times sign out in the logbook and row with a buddy if possible.

Winter training and erging programs
We are in the early stages of establishing the winter rowing programs
and much more info will be forthcoming shortly.
There are currently about 10 students enrolled in the Junior program,
which is being led by John McKenna and Sean Cefalo. Their workout
sessions are M-W-F from 4-8pm. John and Sean, together with some of the
students, are supplying Model D ergs for this program, and they have
graciously offered to allow Nereid members to use these ergs during
non-class times. Many thanks to John and Sean for arranging this! We
plan to invite additional schools to join this program, so the number of
students may grow substantially.
Initially, all ergs will be set up in the South bay, but the Officers
and Trustees have agreed to permit us to relocate the model D ergs to
the sun room upstairs. There will be a new piece of indoor/outdoor
carpeting laid there to protect the floor. The ergs and carpeting can
be removed quickly if that room is rented out. There will be no other
training activities permitted upstairs, just erging.
As soon as the ergs and carpeting are arranged upstairs, we will
announce the specifics of the Adult program, which will include
technical instruction on the ergs supervised by John, as well as
videotaping and weightlifting in the north bay.
Happy Holidays
Andrea and Chris

Thank you from Mrs. Hoard
Nereid invited Mrs. Elizabeth Hoard to the naming of the Seth Weeks Hoard,
the new recreational quad. Here an excerpt from her reply:
"This is in answer to your letter in which you so graciously invited me to
be present for the christening of the newly purchased training quad to
bear my husband's name. It is for health reasons alone that I could not
venture so far from home at this time. However, it is surprisingly close
to Seth's centennial one day later, Dec. 10.
He enjoyed so much his rowing with Dieter Metzger and with the
Mastrobuonos on the Passaic. (...)
Thank you again for your kind letter."
==================
Club's ergs receive new monitors
Nereid's ergs had been barely usable for a while because most of the erg
monitors were out of action. They have now been fitted with new monitors.
Many thanks to Leigh for ordering and installing the monitors.

Interested in a Nereid rowing jacket?
It's been a while since Nereid ordered jackets. If you are interested in
ordering a jacket, please contact Andrea at flexxmom@aol.com. The cost
will be about $150 and an extra $35 for optional matching pants.
==================
Saturday morning open row
On Saturday mornings at 9 AM, Nereid hosts an open row at the club. We
will put crews together with anyone who shows up. Afterwards, there'll be
breakfast at the boathouse.
