Greenwich on top in Head of the Passaic
The HOPR provided a lot of rowing excitement on Sunday with record
participation and very competitive high school races. Greenwich Crew won
both the Girls and Boys 8+ races in a crowded field with 14 and 13 entries
in each category. Second place went to Convent of the Sacred Heart for the
Girls 8+ and Arlington Crew for the Boys 8+. Nereid didn't do badly with a
4th place in the Girls 8+. Lots of excitement on the river with 29 eights
competing and numerous smaller boats. Over 400 rowers took part!
Jim Divan of East End Rowing kept his title of fastest Men's 1x on the
river for a second year, with George Freimarck coming in second.
Fastest in the Women's Open 1x category was Ashley Ricci of Saugatuck
Rowing Club, and Alice Matthews in the Masters 1x race. Congratulations to
all winning Nereid rowers.
This regatta was only possible with the cooperation of the Nutley High
School crew team, which lent its docks to Greenwich, and PRRA. For next
year we plan to co-organize the Head of the Passaic with PRRA, because the
race has grown to the limits of Nereid's capacity in terms of space and
volunteers. A huge thank you to all volunteers, who had to overcome many
small problems on and before race day, and succeeded in putting on a great
regatta. Thanks!!
Photos by Maggie Stack and Joe DiCristo are now posted on the regatta
website, http://www.hopr.org/.
