Head of the Passaic Regatta, Sunday,
October 15
This year's HOPR will be the 6th edition of the race. We are very excited
to announce that entries are running well above plan. Nereid will host
high school crews from as far away as upstate New York and eastern
Connecticut. Over 300 rowers have already registered! The Borough of
Rutherford and Boiling Springs Bank will be the main event sponsors.
* Registration
Registration for the HOPR is now open at RegattaCentral,
http://www.regattacentral.com/. The
registration deadline is October 6. Due to the high level of
interest in the HOPR this year, we may not be able to accept late entries
for some races.
* Volunteering
A volunteer signup sheet will be posted in the boathouse near the door to
the south boat bay. Please consider volunteering – we will need
everyone's help! Let us know if you are interested in specific jobs.

Nereid acquires Wintech training 4x
Those who have been at the boathouse in the past few days have seen it:
Nereid's new Wintech recreational 4x w/cox. The club purchased this boat
with funds from a bequest from the estate of late member Seth Hoard. We
will be having a formal boat naming ceremony at a later date.
Captain Frank Schaefer was instrumental in acquiring the 4x specifically
to support Nereid's Learn to Row classes. Up to now, the LTR classes have
used the Empacher quads and doubles. The new 4x will provide a much more
stable platform for beginning rowers and will reduce the strain on the
Empachers, while also making the latter more available for club members.

Saturday morning open row
On Saturday mornings at 9 AM, Nereid hosts an open row at the club. We
will put crews together with anyone who shows up. Afterwards, there'll be
breakfast at the boathouse.

Nereid Masters Yahoo group
We have created a Yahoo group where Nereid members can post questions to
other members, post photos and classified ads, organize for regattas, find
others to row with, etc. To register, send a blank email to
nereidmasters-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or email
nereidpres@hotmail.com. The group currently has 19 members.

Nereid News is published weekly on Fridays. If you have a news item that
is interesting to other Nereids, please send a few sentences to Alice
Matthews at
nereidsec@hotmail.com. The deadline for submission is Thursday
night. Your contribution will be highly appreciated.
