Head of the Harlem
this Saturday
The "Peter J. Sharp Head of the Harlem Regatta" will be held on
Saturday September 29th at the Peter J. Sharp Boathouse located in
Northern Manhattan. Registration is available at Regattacentral.com.
Ed Zwilling
Note: Nereid’s junior team is racing in this event and will
be bringing a boat trailer.
==================
Registration open
for Head of the Passaic Regatta
This year’s Head of the Passaic Regatta will take place on
Sunday, October 14. It will be the 7th edition of the race. We are
looking forward to a great day of competition and sportsmanship.
* Registration
Registration for the HOPR is now open at RegattaCentral,
http://www.regattacentral.com/. The registration deadline is October 7.
170 rowers have registered so far with more expected. Last year the
regatta was close to capacity in many races, so we encourage everyone
to register early. We may not be able to accept late entries for some
races.
* Racing club
boats
Please contact captain Frank Schaefer if you want to row a specific
club boat in the HOPR.
* Sponsorship
There are many sponsorship options for Nereid members and affiliates.
Please contact Phil Gartenberg (nereidjoin@hotmail.com) for more
information. Sponsors will receive an ad in the regatta program and a
mention on the website.
* Volunteering
A volunteer signup sheet will be posted in the boathouse near the door
to the south boat bay. Please consider volunteering – we will
need everyone's help! Let us know if you are interested in specific
jobs.
More information is available on the regatta website,
http://www.hopr.org/. Questions may be sent to regatta@hopr.org.

Reminder on status
of the Diva 4x
The Diva 4x is a restricted-use boat and may not be used by learn to
row, novice, youth programs, etc. The boat was donated to the club with
the express proviso that it be used only by experienced, year-round,
female members. The Diva was taken out last week by an unauthorized
crew, who moved the foot stretchers in the bow seat. As a result, the
toe steer is not functioning properly. If you were involved in this
incident, or you would like permission to use the Diva, please contact
Sheila O'Shea, sheilaoshea@netzero.com.

Former Nereid update
My name is Peter Ottomanelli, I first rowed at Nereid in 2000 in the
summer program and my last time there was 2003. I stayed involved with
the club as much as possible after then and participated in the LTR
days and even brought my then girlfriend and now new wife to one in
2005... We have since moved out to LA and were married just a few days
ago - Sept 1st!
I am currently a member of the Los Angeles Rowing Club and the club is
very much like early Nereid. Shut up and row AND have a good time. We
still do not have a house and wet launch for our rows, but it is fun
and a good reminder that the mark of a true club is the people and not
the latest equipment. Nereid has a great core and just remember the
next time you get frustrated at a boathouse problem, you are there for
the love of the sport and the great friendships you make.
Say hello to all of the Nereid people who may remember me!
Thanks,
Pete
