New bow lights policy in the works
We are considering requiring all members rowing in the dark to carry two
bright white lights on the shell, one on the stern and one on the bow.
This is in compliance with international boating rules. We would also
like to synchronize Nereid's lighting policy with that of PRRA, to avoid
confusion on the water. PRRA requires a blinking white light on the bow
and a steady white light on the stern.
There are different lighting rules for launches which we will implement as
well.
Please send comments to
nereidpres@hotmail.com. Safety should be our primary concern on the
water.
Lights may be purchased from e.g.
http://www.rowingboatlights.com/lights.html.

Rutherford Police Department to install antenna
The Rutherford Police Department intends to install a 5 ft. radio
transmitter antenna on the Nereid boathouse roof. The antenna will be
attached to the chimney and a cable will run into the attic to a small box
with electronic equipment. This system will allow handheld police radios
to work in low-lying areas of the town, such as on the river. In an
incident earlier this year the police found that their radios weren't
working on the river.
We are cooperating with the police because better emergency services on
the river are clearly in Nereid's interest. As part of the installation
work, the police department will periodically need access to the
boathouse, at least initially. Please assist the officers if they need
access.

Saturday morning open row
On Saturday mornings at 9 AM, Nereid hosts an open row at the club. We
will put crews together with anyone who shows up. Afterwards, we might
have some of Briant's pancakes at the boathouse.
