Trustees Message
Dear fellow Members,
Your trustees have not taken the summer off, literally or figuratively.
Finances: After many unexpected twists and turns (which is becoming
par for the course), I am pleased to advise the Boiling Springs loan was
closed. Leigh Hermey and I closed the loan Aug. 23. This is our third
financing with this bank, which is headquartered in Rutherford (NB:
Boiling Springs was an early name for this area). The loan is being used
to consolidate debt, paying off our original mortgage on the property at
554 Riverside Ave. and the balance for the Bulkhead Park Plan. This
financing frees up our operating income for pressing club needs like boats
and oars, on which your Officers (Marc and Frank) are advising the
Trustees.
Town Matters: We have held recent discussions with the Rutherford
attorney, who is perhaps understandably impatient to see the work on the
Park begin as soon as possible. We have been operating on the assumption
that permitting Bulkhead first (which is very straightforward) and then
filing for the Park would be most expeditious, however, to accommodate the
Town we will explore filing for all at once, even though this may
ultimately delay start of the project. Nonetheless, we are committed to
satisfying the Town, fufilling our obligation and providing a suitable
facility for the Town which will also be a beautiful setting for our club.
Stay tuned.
Finally, welcome to all the new members who have joined over the summer.
Many of you have come out of our Learn to Row and Novice Programs, the
result, I think, of some very fine coaching. Nereid is committed to
improving the quality of Masters rowing and the effort is paying off. We
are seeking more coaches, more equipment and providing more social
opportunities. We have facilities which are the envy of many others, and
we will continue to improve on them.
Enjoy the rest of the summer.
See you on the water,
George Freimarck
Chair of Trustees

Head of the Passaic Regatta - now on Sunday, October 15
We have decided to postpone the HOPR by a month to October 15. The reason
for the date change is that none of the high schools that row on the
Passaic will have organized crews by the original date. This problem only
recently became apparent and the decision to change the date was made
after much discussion.
* Volunteering
The date change creates a lot of extra work for the regatta committee. If
you are interested in volunteering on the committee, please email
regatta@hopr.org.
We could also use some volunteers to make followup phone calls to
potential sponsors. Let us know if you are interested in helping with the
followup.
* Registration
Registration for the HOPR is now open at RegattaCentral,
http://www.regattacentral.com/.
The registration deadline is October 8, but it helps us tremendously if
you register early.
* Sponsorship
We have many sponsorship opportunities for the regatta, starting at $100
for a 1/4 page advertisement in the regatta program. Contact
regatta@hopr.org for more
information.

Nereid rowers at the FISA World Masters and World Championship Regattas
About 10 rowers from three rowing clubs located in Southern Germany,
namely Offenbach (IGOR), Mannheim (Mannheimer RG Rheinau) and Ludwigshafen
(Ludwigshafener RV), will stay and train at Nereid from September 3rd to
September 10th.
They will participate with our Nereid team at the FISA World Masters
Regatta in Princeton (http://www.fisamasters2006.com/).
Our Nereid team will challenge the rest of the rowing world in the Masters
Mixed 8+ (Al, Leigh, Mike, George, Gratia, Connie, Sheila, Frank and
Will), Masters 2x (Andrea and Eric), and the Masters 2x, 4x, and 1x
(Chris, Marc M.).
Also, Nereid member Quique Nanne is currently racing for Guatemala in the
LWT 1x at the FISA World Rowing Championships in Eaton, UK.
GOOD LUCK!
