Compendium of Rowing Terms

Bucket rigging
The rigging of an eight or a four so that riggers 2 and 3 are on the same side.

Button (or collar)
A plastic or metal fitting tightened on the oar to keep the oar from slipping through the oarlock.

Catch
The point of the stroke at which the blade enters the water at the end of the recovery, which is accomplished by an upward motion of the arms and hands only. The blade of the oar must be fully squared at the catch.

Check
Any abrupt deceleration of the shell caused by some uncontrolled motion within the shell; an interruption in the forward motion of the shell.

Cockpit
The area in a shell that holds the rowers and houses the seat, the tracks, and the footstretcher.

I got the 'ok' to order polo shirts with the Club's logo. Would anyone be interested in purchasing one? I'm ordering from my Adidas contact, so they might be on the pricy side. I believe that it will be somewhere in the range of $45.

Safe Trailer Driving & Loading Workshop

We want you to be safe behind the wheel (and in-front of 60+ feet of very valuable equipment). If you are pulling or loading just one four or $250,000 worth of boats, this clinic is for you. The workshop will be followed by a question and answer session, to cover all information your coaches (and crew parents) need to be safe behind the wheel.

9:00 a.m. -- Sign In

On Saturday mornings at 8:30 AM, Nereid hosts an open row at the club. We will put crews together with anyone who shows up. Afterwards, there'll be breakfast at the boathouse.
