Nereid files for 501(c)(3) status

A lot of work went into the application for 501(c)(3) nonprofit status for the Nereid Boat Club, which we filed last week. Nonprofit status will allow us to apply for state and federal grants and accept tax-deductible donations and matching gifts. This is a big step for Nereid and a major milestone in our bulkhead fundraising plan.

Many thanks to Phil Gartenberg, John Van Der Tuin, Bob Hoguet, Leigh Hermey, and Al Medioli for assembling all the required documentation for the application. And thanks to our members for approving the new club board structure that made this possible.

Boathouse brunch for Chris Doyle

All members and friends are cordially invited to attend a farewell brunch for Chris Doyle, honoring his many years of commitment and service to the club, and wishing him and wife Joan well as they begin their new life on the banks of the Schuykill.

The brunch, hosted by Erik King, Chris' long time rowing companion and (re)founding member of Nereid, will be catered at the boathouse. Everyone should have received an Evite with the date & time: Sunday, June 24, 10 AM.

We look forward to seeing everyone.

Interested in a Nereid Polo Shirt?

I got the 'ok' to order polo shirts with the Club's logo. Would anyone be interested in purchasing one? I'm ordering from my Adidas contact, so they might be on the pricy side. I believe that it will be somewhere in the range of $45.

What does everyone think? Just send me an email if you are interested.

Best regards,
John McKenna

US Rowing needs volunteers on June 23

US Rowing is looking for volunteers to help run two events at Mercer Lake on June 20, 21, 22 & 23. These are the trials for the Junior Team (under 18) and the Elite National Championships. Teams from Australia & Canada will be traveling to compete. Come on out & meet some internationals who you just might see competing at the Beijing Olympics.

If you have some spare time on any of these dates, please lend a hand. All are welcome: parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers......no previous experience necessary. Volunteers will staff two shifts as follows:

Sat June 23 - 6am - 2pm (2 shifts)

Volunteers receive an official regatta T-shirt, water, and lunch (if you work the whole day). To help out, please contact Regina at USRowing, Ph. 609-419-1936.
