National Learn to Row Day successful
Thanks everyone for your help at National LTR Day last weekend! Over 20
interested people had their first taste of rowing last weekend, with the
help of Phil Gartenberg, Frank Schaefer, John van der Tuin, Briant Canha,
and coxswains Erin Martin and Constance Gill. The club also hosted a Level
1 Coaching Clinic, organized by Chris Doyle, which received a lot of
interest.
The Summer Junior and Adult coached rowing sessions have started this
week. During those sessions there may be a temporary shortage of club
boats and oars. We are working on finding ways to make more equipment
available. Please encourage our Learn to Row students as they take their
first strokes on the water.

NYAC Masters Scullers Invitational Results, 6/10
Nereid was well represented at the NYAC Masters Scullers race, but
participation was unfortunately not sufficient to capture the trophy.
Rowing for Nereid were Frank Schaefer, Charlie Johnston, Marc Monplaisir,
Ian Hawkins, Chris Doyle, Nick Thorpe, Derek Offer, Maria-Theresa Canha,
Briant Canha, and Erin Martin.
Nereid won second place in the Men's 1x (30s) (Marc), second in the Mixed
2x (Frank and Erin), third in the Men's 1x (40s) (Charlie), third in the
Men's Open 2x (Nick and Derek). The overall score was 1. NYAC, 2.
Saugatuck, 3. Nereid. In the words of one participant, "The weather was
great and Nereid put on a good effort."
And: "In your NYAC regatta report I would note that we'd particularly like
to see more of our female scullers over the remainder of the summer racing
season, and that ladies who have not raced with Nereid should know that
there are folks of all abilities attending races, so don't feel shy about
entering."

US Rowing needs volunteers on June 20 - 23
US Rowing is looking for volunteers to help run two events at Mercer Lake
on June 20, 21, 22 & 23. These are the trials for the Junior Team (under
18) and the Elite National Championships. Teams from Australia & Canada
will be traveling to compete. Come on out & meet some internationals who
you just might see competing at the Beijing Olympics.
If you have some spare time on any of these dates, please lend a hand.
All are welcome: parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters,
brothers......no previous experience necessary. Volunteers will staff two
shifts as follows:
Wed June 20 - 6am-9am & possibly 6pm-7pm
Thurs June 21 - 6am-5pm (2 shifts)
Fri June 22 - 6am-5pm (2 shifts)
Sat June 23 - 6am - 2pm (2 shifts)
Volunteers receive an official regatta T-shirt, water, and lunch (if you
work the whole day). To help out, please contact Regina at USRowing -

Saturday morning open row
On Saturday mornings at 9 AM, Nereid hosts an open row at the club. We
will put crews together with anyone who shows up. Afterwards, there'll be
breakfast at the boathouse.
