National Learn to Row Day – this Saturday!
This Saturday, June 9th is National Learn to Row Day. Please come to the
club for a row – we need a good showing to encourage new rowers and
potential members. The program starts at 9 AM. Look for
announcements in area newspapers.
Nereid members are free to bring guests on LTR Day. Please remember that
every guest rower must sign a liability waiver. Waivers are in the file on
the inside of the boat bay door and are also available in the office.

NYAC Masters Scullers Invitational
Sunday, June 10, 9:00 am to Noon
NYAC Boathouse, Travers Island
Course: 1,000 meters, Orchard Beach Lagoon
Invited: Nereid and Saugatuck
Representing Nereid will be Frank Schaefer, Charlie Johnston, Ian Hawkins,
and Chris Doyle, all in Men's 1x; Frank/Chris, Ian/Charlie, and Nick
Thorpe/Derek Offer in Men's Open 2x; and Maria-Theresa Canha/Briant Canha
and Connie Kaldewei/Frank in Mixed 2x. Good luck to all!

Graduates of First Nereid HS program to Row at Royal Henley
Two of the original group of high school students who learned to row at
Nereid in its inaugural season in Spring 2002 will now be rowing in the
2007 Royal Henley Regatta for their respective college teams.
Lauren Hurwitz, daughter of club member Andrea Hurwitz, a rising Wellesley
senior, spent her junior semester at Oxford and will be rowing in the St.
Catherine's College boat. Joe Medioli will be competing in the Harvard
varsity for the Ladies Challenge Plate (university eights). Lauren and Joe
both graduated from Teaneck HS in 2004.

Skimmer News
I spoke to Bob DeVita of the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners today
about the ETA for the skimmer (used to collect debris from the river) at
the pump station in Wallington . It was damaged last year when they used
it for weed removal in a lake in Newark. Someone tied it up wrong and it
flipped over.
They are in the process of soliciting bids for work to make it more stable
and, unfortunately, don't expect it to be ready until about August.

Level 1 USRA Coaching Clinic this weekend
USRowing is offering a Level I coaching Clinic at the Nereid boathouse on
June 9-10. The meeting room will be closed to the general membership on
those days. We encourage Nereid members interested in coaching to take
part.
Location: Nereid Boat Club
When: June 9-10, 9 to 5 Saturday, 9 to noon or 1 on Sunday.
Cost: $125 includes manual and test on site.

Payment for the clinic should be made upon arrival, by check, VISA, or
MasterCard. Individual (not organizational) US Rowing membership is
required and can be obtained or renewed on the US Rowing website or by
calling 1 800 314 4769.

Saturday morning open row
On Saturday mornings at 9 AM, Nereid hosts an open row at the club. We
will put crews together with anyone who shows up. Afterwards, there'll be
breakfast at the boathouse.
