Join the Nereid Paddle Relay Team!
If you would like to try paddling for a change, consider supporting the
Passaic River Paddle Relay and the Lower Passaic & Saddle River Alliance
by joining the Nereid team on May 12. The Paddle Relay is an annual race
that starts at the Nereid Boathouse and ends in downtown Newark after 3
relay legs. Here’s your chance to find out what lies beyond the bend in
the Passaic at the Kearny boathouse!
We need only 3 more paddlers to fill out Nereid’s team of 6. If you are
interested, please send an email to
nereidsec@hotmail.com to sign up. The organizers provide the canoes
and we'll teach you how to paddle.

Boathouse needs mugs
We could use a lot more coffee mugs at the boathouse. They keep coffee
warm for longer, hold more coffee, and are better for the environment than
disposable plastic cups. If you have a mug you don’t use, please consider
donating it to the club.

On this day in Nereid history…
On May 15, 1866, a group of rowers from the Newark area came together to
form the Nereid Boat Club. They elected four men to officer positions, and
apparently hit the Passaic a few days later in a six-oared boat. While the
Club was incorporated officially in 1868, Nereid surely took its first
breath during that May meeting. As you dip your oars in the water this
weekend, please take a moment to remember our hallowed founders and the
great tradition that has continued these 141 years! Learn more about the

Saturday morning open row
On Saturday mornings at 9 AM, Nereid hosts an open row at the club. We
will put crews together with anyone who shows up. Afterwards, there'll be
breakfast at the boathouse.
