Winter housekeeping reminder
It has been reported to us that members have found the boathouse in the
early morning with the heat turned off and the emergency exit door left
open. We need to be more careful to avoid theft and unnecessary building
repair expenses.
- Please do not turn off the heat in the boathouse, but set it at
50 F when you are the last to leave the club. This avoids problems with
frozen water pipes.
- Keep the garage doors closed as much as possible to keep heat in the
house.
- Never open the emergency exit door except in case of an emergency.
Thank you for your help.

First draft of new Nereid bylaws completed
The bylaws review committee (Bob Hoguet, John van der Tuin, Phil
Gartenberg) has worked diligently over the winter to develop a new set
of bylaws for the club. Nereid needs new bylaws to streamline its
governance structure, eliminate obsolete procedures, and become eligible
for 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, which allows tax-deductible donations.
The first draft has been completed. Next the draft will be reviewed by
the officers and trustees, who may suggest changes. Following that
review, we plan to work on a final draft. On February 10 there will be a
meeting at the boathouse where club members can ask questions and
suggest changes. The purpose of that meeting is to make sure all members
have the opportunity to give input into the new bylaws.
We have scheduled the Annual General Membership Meeting on Saturday,
March 3rd. At that meeting we would like to bring the bylaws revision to
a vote.

Winter training and erging program
We have successfully started our winter training program. There is
tremendous interest and enthusiasm from the Masters to keep training and
stay in shape over the winter. There are 8 ergs, and two sessions on
Saturdays and Sundays. The first session is 7:30 - 9 AM, the second is
9:00 - 10:30 AM. Participants MUST sign up in advance by emailing John
McKenna to reserve a seat. If we have the demand for more sessions, we
will consider adding another one. John has started videotaping
participants for technical feedback. Weight training will begin as soon
as the docks are removed, as we need the boat bays clear while rowers
are using boats.
